Spur, Helical and Worm Gears: Key Differences
Tooth-form differences between spur, helical and worm gears for custom motion-system RFQs and drawing-based manufacturing.
Spur gears
Straight teeth, common for parallel-shaft layouts. Straightforward to define on drawings when module, tooth count and face width are clear.
Helical gears
Helix angle can improve engagement smoothness and load sharing. Include helix direction and angle with the tooth data package.
Worm gears & shafts
Useful for compact ratios and right-angle drives. Share mating worm/wheel data together when possible.
Data to include
Module/DP, pressure angle, material, heat treatment, inspection needs and quantity. Browse Precision Gears or Gear Manufacturing.
Send drawings, material, quantity and inspection requirements. Zhuocheng will review manufacturability and recommend a process route.
